Travel BlogsTrekking in Yunnan, ChinaI spent 4 months in China on a job assignment, and brought my family with me (wife and 3 year old son). We did a fair amount of traveling through the country, and one of our favorite regions was the Yunnan province. Canceling out the noiseI just read a great review in the New York Times about 10 different noise canceling headphones. I personally LOVE my noise canceling headphones. I use them for all sorts of things: traveling in the car/plane, cutting out ambient noise at work, even going to sleep. But I am also a cheapskate! I found mine at Big Lots for $15!
The human price of luxury travelI just got back from a new resort on the west coast of Mexico. The resort was beautiful and the town was clean, safe feeling and modern. But I can't help wondering... what was here before? This was supposed to be an old fishing village but there are no old buildings heres. I wonder if to create these resorts the Mexican government forced everyone to relocate. How would I feel if the US government came by and said, "Pack up, we need this land for rich tourists to indulge." Just what is the price we are willing to pay for our fun. |
